A total of 6 people shot, 1 killed in a string of shootings that occurred over the course of one weekend in Oakland, CA. The one person killed was 50 year old Leo Dunson, father of U.S. Army veteran, hip hop recording artist SGT Dunson.
I have have supported SGT Dunson not only as an artist, but as a warrior, a veteran, and as a hard working respected individual. I urge you to share this article and submit any possible tips to the authorities that would lead to catching the shooter. I reached out to SGT Dunson at this difficult time in an attempt to get his thoughts on the situation. And it went as follows:
Dunson, you have been through so much at such a young age growing up in Oakland then joining the Army and turning out to become an experienced Iraq War Combat Veteran, a time in your life where you experienced a tremendous amount of losses not just in the line of duty, but your personal life as well. Do you feel that yours father’s passing is another test? Also, If there is any way that the you feel that the public can help the most, what way would it be?
“Absolutely I feel as though my father’s death is definitely another test, but I would phase it as more of an obstacle, because after claiming over each obstacle your that much closer to your destination and that’s how I feel about my father passing. It is something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, but in a positive way. A way to say hey everything been thrown at me including the book and I’m still standing.
Honestly, bringing more awareness to the situation I believe could help, but me personally I’ve already wiped my hands of this. It’s in God’s hands I truly believe everything happens for a reason and though I will miss my father, and though it seems so unjustified how he went. I am still optimistic that justice will be served eventually one way or another. My father is in a better place now. He’s with the King of All Kings Jesus Christ.”
